IMMACULATA it is ! ! ! ! !

On a unanimous vote by the board and the committee chairs it was formally decided that LLCC will partner with Immaculata University's College of Lifelong Learning. 
At the membership meeting on Thursday, the rationale for the decision was discussed by the board and a summary description of Immaculata was presented by Dick Calef.
The new committee chairs were also announced:
Operations - Roberta Matz
Curriculum - Anne Hearn
Finance - Caroline Cassels  
Membership - Dick Calef
On Tuesday, May 24th, Ed Goll, Tony Meluskey and the chairs will meet with Immaculata's Angela Tekely, ED.D., Dean of the College of Lifelong Learning and members of her team. This will be the beginning of the transition process from castoffs and wandering nomads to proud official members of the Immaculata community.
The next general membership meeting will be held some day during the second week of Summer Session at Exton. In the meantime watch for updates on this blog.

Refunds from Widener

Jean McGee the registrar for OLLI is preparing a list of members who paid an all- inclusive fee (spring, summer and fall) and those who paid for an annual membership (spring and fall). This is at the request of Widener University and those who have paid for the fall series will have their money returned. HOWEVER, Jean wants a request from affected students via email or postal mail.

Membership Meeting on May 19

The next general meeting of the membership will be held on May 19th at noon in Exton. This will be a very important meeting for everyone interested in continuing the Lifelong Learning experience in Chester County.

LifeLong Learning of Chester County Thanks to Dave Matz We are really cooking with gas now.  Due to the superb efforts of Ed Goll and Tony Meluskey, and a small group of Advisory Committee members, we have made contact with a variety of potential University and Community partners and we are in active discussions with West Chester University and Immaculata University.  We are getting great press from local news media.  Click on the link to get to the Inquirer article (Front page of Section 2) from Saturday, May 7, 2016. West Chester University Ed, Tony, Ann Hearn and Roberta Matz, met with West Chester Univ. on Thursday, May 5.     It appears that West Chester University is interested in a relationship with us that is not too different than what we had with Widener.  The facility is very professional, with 200 parking spots, an elevator, and plenty of restrooms. They have ten classrooms that we could use, two being as large as our present Room# 1/2.  One item missing is that they assume each student will bring their own computer, so there is a plug at each seat, but no computer room.  In addition, we would need to supply some volunteer staffing for reception and possible a few other minor functions that  were done by Widener staff or  supplied by our building landlord at our present building.  Immaculata University Ed, Tony, Roberta, and Anne met with  Immaculata University on  Monday, May 9.  Immaculata's facilities are more extensive than WCU. Since they are right on campus, there are more facilities readily available.  They do have one computer room. have rooms with water and sinks, a music room, and several on-site cafeterias and coffee shops. They are interested in taking full ownership of Facility and Staff functions immediately.   For the Fall we would not be in one building. There would be a short walk between the two buildings that we would use.  For future semesters, Immaculata says they would try to put all of our classes in the one main building. The walk from the handicapped parking spots to the building entrance is comparable to what we have now at Widener, Exton.

Auditing Courses as a Senior Citizen at Immaculata

Are you still curious and hungry to learn? Enjoy the pleasure of learning by auditing a college course at Immaculata University for just $50.

Whether your interests are in art, history, theology, personal finance, music, literature, computers or much more, the College of LifeLong Learning at Immaculata University welcomes senior citizens (age 65+) to take undergraduate courses.

The courses are offered as personal enrichment, so no academic credit is awarded. Courses are available based upon open seats after all degree-seeking students have registered. Please note that you must satisfy any prerequisites for the course and pay any fees associated with courses (lab, art, etc.)

Courses are taught in full-semester and accelerated formats, or you may enjoy taking a weekend workshop. Look through our semester course schedule and then contact Lynn Giltinan at 484-323-3245 to learn more.

We want to keep you up to date on our planning for Fall 2016.  We are meeting with 2 potential partners:  West Chester University and Immaculata University, among several possible partners. We hope to be able to choose between these fine options within a few weeks. In the meantime, we have 4 volunteer committees working to get ready for the fall.

Tomorrow, Thursday, May 5th, Ed Goll, Roberta Matz, Anne Hearn and Tony Meluskey will visit WCU to further explore our options with them. We will meet with the Director of External Operations and the Director of WCU's Continuing Education Program.
This level of interest makes our chances with WCU look good.

Ed Goll, Bob Hewitt and Tony Meluskey visited Immaculata University on Friday, April 19th, to investigate Immaculata's interest in our proposal to partner with them to continue our LifeLong Learning experience.
We met with the Dean of the College of LifeLong Learning (they even capitalize the second "L" in lifelong, just as we do). The Dean gave us a tour of the facilities that we would use for classrooms. It appears to be an excellent fit for us and I think the Dean recognizes that. Immaculata would have available most of the amenities that we identified in our five year Strategic Plan and which Widener is touting for its OLLI.
The Dean will report our visit to her superior, whom we met in the hall;  she immediately knew who we were and seemed very enthusiastic.
We're anxiously awaiting word concerning a follow-up meeting.
